Hey Karen! Sorry I haven't commented in a while, but you're posting great stuff. I'm teaching a poetry writing workshop this summer at Wytheville Community College. We've been using Mark's blog for a haiku writing exercise, and I decided to use some of your photos, too. I'm glad I did! Here are some haiku, fresh out of the oven.

Josh

Wide open eyes stare,
like it can see through my soul;
I'm scared, don't eat me!

JBC

Convex window
sheds new ball of light,
carnation grows.

CMS

Insanely crazy!
Please don't feed him ... really,
he will eat you.

SLH

Scared, surprised, or mad
the mouth is also needed
to tell the story.

BRO

In a reflection
beauty arises from life
time and time again.

DLS

Eyes are so vicious
just be glad you aren't around
when it has a mouth.

AGB

You left it alone
unguarded against me now ...
I eat your cookie!

EDR

The eyeballs of doom are
searching for thee from atop the snout
of the mighty Woofor.

CRC

I won this marble
in a hard fought game, winner-
take-all against an angel.

Ha! I've gotten similar reactions from other people on the dog photo. It's funny that he looks so fierce when one isolates his eyes like that. In reality, he's probably the friendliest dog I've ever met. He was abandoned and just wants constant love and attention, possibly a result of said abandonment. If he doesn't feel like you're petting him enough, he'll just rub up against your body over and over again to get that sensation of being petted.

I liked the haiku; I'm glad my photos were able to provide inspiration.
